Chinese Medicine Practitioner

Chinese Medicine Practitioner

Which treatment do you prefer, Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) or Western medicine? It is often said that western medicine alleviates symptoms of illness while TCM cures the root causes. Indeed, TCM is more suitable for people who wish to maintain long-term health. Local people have a high demand for TCM because of their rapid pace of life, irregular diet and insufficient sleep. Nowadays, TCM and Western medicine are used concurrently by many locals who want to alleviate symptoms with western medicine before improving health conditions with Chinese herbs.

Because of the extensiveness and profundity of Chinese medicine, one is required to master the professional knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine to become a TCM doctor. According to the Chinese Medicine Ordinance, any person who wishes to be registered as a registered Chinese medicine practitioner shall undertake and pass the Licensing Examination conducted by the Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong. To be eligible to undertake the Licensing Examination, one should have satisfactorily completed such undergraduate degree course of training in Chinese medicine practice or its equivalent as is approved by the Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong.

The monthly salaries of TCM doctors start from HK$12,000 and can be up to HK$ 40,000 for the experienced ones. TCM doctors work five to six days a week and their working hours are nine hours per day.
