Graphic Designer

Let me share a story here: Steve Jobs, father of Apple, was supposed to study literature and physics when he was young. However, one day he came across with a poster and was impressed by the beautiful font on it. He then changed his mind to take the typography course. Today, the decision he took that day made the beautiful typographic design the biggest selling point of Apple computer - the beautiful typographic design.

So what is the magic of that poster? Only Jobs knows the answer. However, this story demonstrates that the first exposure is very important. As most people’s first contact with the outside world is done through their visual sense, the beautiful and exquisite visual effect can draw people’s attention.

Therefore, just like Steve Jobs’ insistence on products’ appearance and font styles, different industries have different requirements on the exterior design of the products. They are also serious about the advertisement. Graphic designers have to rack their brains everyday to meet different sectors’ demands in order to make their products more appealing. Designers need to exercise their knowledge and integrate elements with aesthetics to harmonize different visual elements in the same picture.

Kan Tai Keung, father of graphic design in Hong Kong, said designers need sensibility, rationality and analytical ability as well as the ability to take in what they see and feel in daily experience. They never fail to seek breakthrough in success or failure. That’s why the logo of Bank of China, which is designed by Kan Tai Keung in 1980s, is still his favorite work up till now.
