Social workers permeate into different social groups to provide most timely assistance
While our society is increasingly prosperous, many social problems arise at the same time, including unemployment, poverty, mood disorder, homelessness, domestic violence and more. Behind the prosperity of society, groups of people who are in urgent need are sometimes neglected. The disadvantaged always hope that someone would give them a hand and provide them with social services in time.
Social worker is a profession born to help vulnerable people in our society. Through developing thorough understanding and providing the most suitable assistance, social workers aspired to improve the life of the disadvantaged groups by all means. The duties of these professionals are very structured, ranging from working on the scope of elderly, children, teenagers, ethnic minorities, homeless people, the disabled and former prisoners, and that corresponding institutions are established to provide these groups with services and assistance. Social workers also work at schools, prisons and hospitals.
In this light, social workers permeate into different social groups. This is why they have to acquire knowledge in different scopes including psychology, legal provisions and local social welfare policies. They need to have good communication with all of their clients. Thus, Social workers must comply with seven working principles including giving clients autonomy, being unbiased, open-minded and adhering to confidentiality, etc. Only by following strictly the seven principles can social workers fully realize their responsibility in providing the most timely assistance for the ones in need.
