Love that catches you unaware (Lok Wan) 22/07/2008

As the saying goes, "Those who don't play matchmakers shall be blessed for three generations". However, some of my friends still like to host "singles parties" in an attempt to hook up friends' friends. I was tricked into attending these parties several times. While sitting among "friends" I've never met at these contrived affairs, I continously question what is the nature of true love.

Obviously, I don't have an answer!

Don't assume romance novelists are experts on love. There's no such thing. At best, there are people who are good at maintaining relationships. Anyone claiming to know the secret to inducing love is a big fat liar.:P

Only love that catches you unaware is worth cherishing. But since you're not consciously aware of it, no one can make it happen or stop it from happening.

Singles parties and other such contrived events are naturally contradictory to love and self-deceiving.

I never thought we had chemistry; I didn't even know you existed…So when did I fall in love with you?

I wasn't prepared at all because love wasn't what I after. I didn't realise it was happening, and when I did, it was too late — I was already deeply in love with you.

This is the most longed-for love, a love that can't be manufactured. You can't think about it, or it would slip away.

Of course, this isn't necessary for dating or even marriage. :P

Matchmakers can indeed help some people find relationships. They have their merits. For sure, not all marriages and relationships are purely based on love.
