Candidates applying for the post of police constable need to pass three kinds of physical fitness tests. The first one is vertical jump, the second is pull up and the third is 100m shuttle run. If the three tests are passed, candidates will then reach the final interview, which is in group discussion format covering social issues, the organisational structure, duties and development of the Hong Kong Police Force. Candidates who pass the interview and get appointed will start a 27-week training programme at the Police College, where they will learn about the law and proper police procedure, weapons training and handling, tactics, foot drills and physical training, swimming and first-aid, etc. Superintendent Lo believes that anyone who are sincere, honest, willing to take responsibility to maintain law and order, interested in police work and regards it as his or her lifetime career is a suitable candidate.
