Do you know what is the meaning of “reinforcing the vital essence and strengthening the primordial qi” in traditional Chinese medicine? It means to enhance the body's resistance from internal origins. As urbanites are increasingly focused on health care and protection, traditional Chinese medicine has been seeing growing popularity. It is now in fashion, in addition to being a tradition.
Industry insiders held that the traditional Chinese medicine sector is on route to becoming standardized. As the "Chinese Medicine Ordinance" requires that staffs who dispense Chinese herbal medicines should hold related certificates and have a certain amount of work experience, it has become increasingly difficult to hire qualified clinic assistants. Assistants at traditional Chinese medicine clinics work eight to nine hours a day and earn a monthly salary of approximately HK$10,000. They assist with the daily operations of the healthcare center, including assisting doctors with examination, registration, prescription, word processing, cleaning and more. Assistants working at small-sized clinics even have to manage the herbal cabinet, and are required to have knowledge about herb powders, Chinese patent medicines and computer management system. Without experience and related knowledge, it would be difficult for one to succeed at the job.
For this reason, the government and many private institutions have set up related curriculums, and some of them even provide internships to train talents and relieve pressure on manpower. Young people who intend to enter this industry can start by accumulating experience as an assistant at traditional Chinese medicine clinics, and then further their studies depending on their interests and strengths. They can also choose to take specialized courses on traditional Chinese medicine to further their careers.Interested in this industry?
