The Contemporary English Studies degree is based on the premise that in a liberal arts education in Hong Kong for the 21st century, English Studies is of central importance. Our definition of English Studies embraces the study of Contemporary Literature in English, Applied Linguistic Studies and Language Studies. While the programme places great stress on the language proficiency of its graduates, it also emphasises the nature of English as an academic discipline in these fields. We recognize English as an international discourse, spoken on all continents, reflecting different - not merely British or North American - perspectives. In brief, the Contemporary English Studies Degree Programme offers a curriculum that introduces the student to, and prepares the student for, English as a mode of thinking that is at once literary, linguistic and practical, in the context of ""World English"".Entry Requirement
