Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Language Studies (Major in either Chinese or English) (Four-year Full-time)

Course summary

If you are interested in this programme, you should be ready to develop your ability to use both Chinese and English whilst enhancing your understanding of the cultures rooted in these languages and the societies where they are used. You will also develop your trilingual proficiency in Cantonese, English and Putonghua by majoring in Chinese or English. If you major in Chinese, you will specialise in Chinese (Language, Literature, and Culture & Communication) but must also deepen your knowledge of English. Similarly, if you major in English, you will specialise in English (Language, Literature, and Culture & Communication) but will also develop your knowledge of Chinese language and culture. Whichever Major track you choose, you will learn to use Putonghua, Cantonese and English as the context demands, sometimes switching among all three. To achieve this, the programme helps you to operate across the different cultures in which these languages are used. It also develops your research skills and prepares you for a future where you need to continually sharpen and update your knowledge of Chinese and English in the workplace and beyond.
