Social problems in Hong Kong have escalated and teenagers are coming under increasing pressure and difficulties. A survey found that nearly 60% teenagers polled were bearish on the future of Hong Kong and it’s hard for them to realize their dreams. The rise of teenage suicide cases can be caused by the big mountains -- property and education – on their shoulders, and the different prejudices against them in society.
The examination-oriented education system and traditional learning environment in schools will strip them of all the pleasure from learning and put them under tremendous pressure. The government should reform the existing education system by providing students with more curriculum options, more activity learning and guidance in career planning to help them develop self-esteem and confidence and realize their potentials through different pathways.
