Google released the consumer survey report 2015, showing that about 48% of the respondents get to know and even buy products by searching on the Internet. Digital consumers have become the main force driving business, especially for the retail industry. Many traditional companies rely on digital marketers to push forward large scale digital promotions to compete with online platforms, and seek to understand the consumption trends on popular platforms in a bid to improve the management of sales and customers with customers’ trends in mind.
A digital marketer has a wide range of duties, including identifying the positioning of the product and formulating digital marketing strategies. The job requires consolidation of a host of data, market monitoring and analysis, communication with customers, reporting and designing marketing activities. Data from CTgoodjobs show that the median monthly salary of a junior digital marketer is HK$16,000 this year, and the figure is HK$40,000 for middle-level marketers and HK$80,000 for senior marketers. The salaries of digital advertising marketing directors are the highest in the industry, ranging from HK$17,000 to HK$65,000 per month. As digital marketers need to master the online-to-offline business model, their working hours are relatively longer at 10-12 hours a day, and their job is not limited to the office.
The industry estimated that the marketing department would invest more resources in digital development after 2017, thus significantly enhancing the importance of digital strategies.
