Urban residents pursue healthy life as well as beautiful stature. Apart from fitness instructors, dietitians are also helpful to such pursuits. A dietitian's duties mainly include clinic treatment, community care, diet management and consultation for training courses. These jobs are mainly aimed to help people develop healthy and balanced diet habits through diet consultation.
Data from Hong Kong Dietitians Association showed that there are only less than 300 dietitians in Hong Kong and over one third of them are working in public institutions. Other institutions, such as private hospitals, community centers, catering companies, schools, beauty or fitness center and senior’s homes are also in need of dietitians, indicating a huge market for the profession.
There is no local dietitian registration system or essential professional regulation in Hong Kong, so both registered and non-registered dietitians are eligible to get a job. However, registered dietitians are more likely to meet the higher job qualifications required by government departments and are more competitive to demand higher salaries. Registered dietitians working as dietary consultants in beauty salons, clinics and government departments earn a monthly salary starting from HK$18,000 to HK$22,000.
Any person who wants to be a registered dietitian is required to complete accredited courses and obtain professional qualifications. One is required to get local professional qualifications after completing the courses abroad so as to be titled as professional dietitian in Hong Kong. There are also many courses in Hong Kong recognized by overseas institutions, and you might as well take note of these courses.Interested in this industry?
