Employment Support Scheme opens for applications
The Government has launched the “Employment Support Scheme” (ESS) under the second round of the “Anti-epidemic Fund” to provide time-limited financial support to employers to retain employees who may otherwise be made redundant.
First tranche of the ESS covers June, July and August. All employers who have made Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) contributions or set up Occupational Retirement Schemes are eligible*. The relevant accounts should be set up on or before March 31, 2020.
Self-employed persons who have set up an active MPF account on or before March 31, 2020 (excluding backdating) and with that account remaining opened as of March 31, 2020 will be eligible for a one-off subsidy of $7,500 on application.
Applications for the first tranche of subsidies can now be submitted until 14 June 2020, and more details can be found in the Scheme's dedicated portal. For enquiries about the scheme, please call the hotline at 183 6122.
* Types of employers not eligible for ESS are set out in the exclusion list.
