The Hong Kong Museum of Art is recruiting docents

Introduction to the Hong Kong Museum of Art
Established in 1962, the Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMoA) is the first public art museum in the city, now custodian of an art collection of over 18,800 items, representing the unique cultural legacy of Hong Kong’s connection across the globe. With a Hong Kong viewpoint, HKMoA aspires to refreshing ways of looking at tradition and making art relevant to everyone, creating new experiences and understanding.

Purpose of the Project
In order to provide visitors with an in-depth understanding of the artworks on display, enrich their experience and enhance their art-appreciation skills, HKMoA’s docents have been providing free guided tours for groups and other members of the public. After the renovation and expansion, HKMoA is now calling for applications for the new docent recruitment and training programme, with the aim of selecting about 100 applicants to attend training sessions.

Training sessions
Applicants will be given the opportunity to attend an interview, and those who pass the interview will be required to attend training sessions, which will focus on HKMoA's four core collections: Chinese Antiquities, Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, China Trade Art, Modern and Hong Kong Art—as well as professional knowledge regarding tour guiding skills and communication skills, conservation and restoration. At the end of the course, participants will be required to pass an assessment, including a written test, a mock guided tour, and a script-writing exercise. After passing the assessment and completing the internship, participants will officially become HKMoA's docents.

Duties of Docents
- Attend docent training for current exhibitions.
- Lead tours for at least six sessions throughout the year, each session lasting approximately 1 hour (each service includes a travel allowance of approximately HK$200).
- Assist in promoting and publicising HKMoA's brand image, including wearing the designated docent attire, and being neat and tidy. The term of appointment will be one year, and it will be renewed based on satisfactory performance.

How to apply:
