The main duty of the Radiation Monitoring and Assessment Centre is to monitor radiation. In case of a radiation leak, the Centre will monitor the radiation levels in different districts in Hong Kong, evaluate whether it is harmful to people, advise the Security Bureau on the measures to take and release the latest information to the public. The Observatory also monitors earthquake activities in Hong Kong and the nearby regions. The Caesium Beam Atomic Clocks kept in the Observatory tell the time accurately to Hong Kong residents. Candidates who are keen on joining the scientific field, with a particular interest in weather and climate, are suitable to work in the Observatory.
