Senior Health Inspector

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) is responsible for the inspection of food safety and food premises, the enforcement of food-related legislation and monitoring the public cleansing service. Having been working at FEHD for 24 years, Health Inspector Yuan Wai-lun was assigned to take on various duties and has recently been charged with health promotion duties. As a Health Inspector, Yuan maintains close contact with the public. He said that most likely people would not say thank you for their assistance directly. But eventually they would let FEHD know it had done a good job. To qualify as a Health Inspector, a candidate is required to hold a Higher Diploma in Environmental Health from the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) or equivalent, plus grade 2 or above in both Chinese and English subjects in HKCEE. But what Yuan considered to be the most important attributes of a candidate are a passion for public service and a sense of mission. A health inspector should also have excellent communication skills and the ability to enforce the law in an impartial manner. Organisation chart
