As part of the mission of the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware to foster a tea drinking culture and enhance creativity in the art of pottery tea ware, the competition of Tea Ware by Hong Kong Potters has been organized at regular intervals since 1986. The competition aims to stimulate general awareness of and interest in tea drinking and ceramic art in Hong Kong. An exhibition of selected works will be held from December 2021 onwards at the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware. Theme: The theme of the competition is contemporary tea ware or tea-drinking related ware. The works submitted should be functional and creative. The range of entries includes teapots, teacups, cup stands, saucers, slop bowls, water boilers, ewers, tea caddies and fresh water jars, etc. The tea ware can be made and designed for the brewing and preparation of different types of tea such as green tea, white tea, oolong tea, black tea, Pu’er-type tea and scented tea which are classi¬ed according to their manufacturing processes and the colour of the tea decoction. Eligibility: The conditions of eligibility are as follows: (a) Open Category : The entrant should be residing in Hong Kong and in possession of a Hong Kong Identity Card. The entrant should submit entry in his/her personal capacity. School Category: The entrant should be full-time Hong Kong student aged 18 or below and submit entry through a local registered school. The entrant should create work(s) in his/her personal capacity. (b) Submitted works should be original ceramic creations hand-made by the entrants not more than two years from the date of entry, and should not have been awarded previously by any institution or organization, nor they have been donated or sold to any person, company, institution or organization. (c) The staff of the Hong Kong Museum of Art and adjudicators of this competition are not eligible to submit entries.
