In 2014, the HKSAR Government decided to launch the Multi-faceted Excellence Scholarship (MES) to support local students studying the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) curriculum who excel in sports, arts and / or community service to pursue undergraduate studies in universities andlocally-accredited degree-awarding institutions in Hong Kong. The scholarship aims to promote a culture of multi-faceted excellence and convey to society the message that academic results are not the sole criterion for measuring the success of young people. It provides talented students with an alternative admission channel to higher education. Our target is to award the Multi-faceted Excellence Scholarship (MES) to support universities and tertiary institutions in admitting around 40 local undergraduate students per cohort who excel in sports, arts and / or community service. Secondary school principals are invited to nominate up to two Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education students of their school for the MES. For more details, please refer to the information note of the MES 2021. ELIGIBILITYIn order to be eligible for the MES, applicants must meet the following criteria –(i) have the right of abode or right to land in Hong Kong, or have entered Hong Kong on One-way Permits;(ii) study the HKDSE curriculum; and(iii) simultaneously and on their own, apply for admission to universities / locally-accredited degree-awarding institutions in Hong Kong to pursue publicly-funded or self-financing undergraduate studies commencing in the 2021/22 academic year through the Joint University Programmes Admission System (JUPAS) or by direct application (for undergraduate programmes not covered by JUPAS).
Scholarship Schemes Every year, the Fund invites application for its scholarship schemes to enable candidates of outstanding calibre to pursue: post-graduate studies (including taught or research programmes) in music or dance at local degree-awarding tertiary institutions; orprofessional training in music or dance at world-renowned institutions or to undertake less formal studies, projects or creative work outside Hong Kong. Scope of Scholarships (This year, the scope of the Fund's two scholarship schemes will have minor difference.) The scope of the scholarships is not confined to "performer training programmes", i.e. instrumental music or dance studies. Applicants may apply for non-performing studies directly related to music or dance performance, such as composition, choreography, musicology, arts criticism and performance-based research relating to music and dance. This year, applicants for the scholarship scheme (local studies) may also apply for music and dance education. Starting from 2018/19, the scholarship scheme (non-local studies) no longer support programmes relating to arts administration, music or dance therapy, and music or dance education. For the scholarship scheme (local studies), arts administration, and music or dance therapy will continuously not be accepted.
