[Our City, Our Games] The 9th Hong Kong Games

To further promote the "Sport for All" culture in the community, the Sports Commission has organised the Hong Kong Games (HKG) biennially since 2007. HKG is a territory-wide major multi-sport event with the 18 Districts as participating units. The objectives of the HKG are to provide districts with more opportunities for sports participation, exchanges and co-operation, and to encourage active public participation in sports. Apart from improving sporting standards at the district level, HKG can also strengthen the public's sense of belonging to the district they live in and help promote community cohesion through facilitating communication and fostering friendship among the 18 districts. The 9th HKG will commence on 21 April 2024. Apart from competing in the Games, members of the public could also watch the Games and cheer on the athletes at the competitions, or join the community participation programmes, to echo the HKG's slogan "Our City, Our Games"!   Opening Ceremony The 9th HKG Opening Ceremony will be held on 21 April 2024 (Sunday). Free admission tickets are available at the District Leisure Services Offices of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department from 8:30 am on 2 April 2024 (Tuesday) on a first-come-first-served basis, with a limit of two tickets per person. (All distributed) Members of the public without admission tickets can enjoy watching the highlights of the ceremony on TVB Jade at 10:30 pm on 21 April 2024.   Sports Competitions Inter-district Sports CompetitionsScheduled for 21 April to 9 June 2024, the inter-district sports competitions of the 9th HKG will cover eight sports, namely athletics, badminton, 3-on-3 basketball, futsal, swimming, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.>>Full Competition Schedule Sport Competitions for People with DisabilitiesThe four events of the sports competitions for people with disabilities include wheelchair Wheelchair 3-on-3 Basketball Competition, Boccia Competition and Competition of Swimming and Table Tennis for People with Intellectual Disabilities. Demonstration CompetitionsIn addition to Women’s Futsal Demonstration Event, several urban sports demonstration competitions, namely breaking, sport climbing and skateboarding, which are popular among young people, will be introduced to boost the vitality of the event.   Community Participation Programmes Apart from the sports competitions, a series of diversified activities will also be organised to enable more members of the public to support and participate in the HKG in different ways.  Members of the public can vote for My Favourite Sporty District and guess the Overall Champion of the 9th HKG. Photography enthusiasts can take pictures of the exciting scenes of sports competitions and activities of the 9th HKG to participate in the Dynamic Moments Photo Contest. (Video in Chinese only)   The 9th HKG is organised by the Sports Commission and co-ordinated by its Community Sports Committee, with the Home Affairs Department, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, and the relevant National Sports Associations of the sports competitions as co-organisers. LCSD's Urban Sports Programmes

To further strengthen the promotion of urban sports that have been introduced in the Olympic Games and the Youth Olympic Games, as well as to encourage greater public participation in sports activities, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will organise a series of urban sports programmes including 3-on-3 basketball, breaking, futsal, skateboarding and sport climbing.  Some of the events are conducted to cater for youths, with a view to spurring more participation by them and exploring their potential in sports. Notes on Enrolment   Facilities and Venues SearchApart from the mentioned programmes, LCSD facilities are also available for conducting urban sports. At present, there are 14 indoor and outdoor sport climbing facilities, 8 skateboard grounds, 5 skateparks, over 120 5-a-side soccer pitches, some 500 basketball courts and over 190 dance rooms/activity rooms available for conducting urban sports. Search for facilities available for conducting urban sports   LCSD Edutainment Channel Learning Sports3-on-3 Basketball Roller Sports Sport Climbing Free Promotional Fun Days Suitable for YouthsWith a view to bolstering the participation of youth, LCSD will launch a series of free promotional fun days with specific urban sports themes which are suitable for youths, such as Skateboarding Fun Day for Youth, Breaking Fun Day for Youth and 3-on-3 Basketball Fun Day for Youth. Relevant national sports associations will send qualified instructors to demonstrate the sports and teach participants basic skills on-site.
