United Nations Volunteers - Hong Kong Universities Volunteer Internship Programme

The Government has collaborated with the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) and 3 other local volunteer organisations (namely the Agency for Volunteer Service, Hong Kong Volunteers Association and The Peace and Development Foundation) to implement the UNV-Hong Kong Universities Volunteer Internship Programme since 2015. The purpose of the programme is to encourage the selected undergraduates to develop their personal capacities and global vision, as well as contribute to global peace and development through participating in the volunteer internship. Participants of the Programme are funded by the Government to undertake 6-month assignments in the field units of various United Nations agencies overseas. These assignments cover specific disciplines such as health and education, environment and innovation management. Programme Highlights The first round of 2023 Programme was launched at the end of 2022 with 15 quotas available. The second round of the Programme has been launched with details as follows: No. of places 10 participants Service Locations Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal and Thailand Field Units • United Nations Children's Fund • United Nations Development Programme • United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women • United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs - Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific • United Nations Office for Project Services • United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs • United Nations Population Fund • United Nations Volunteer Fieldwork Volunteer interns will have the opportunity to participate in short-term field work organised by the United Nations agencies to experience the frontline work of the local service units (such as refugee assistance, disaster response, climate change, etc.), and to gain better understanding on the related issues. Internship Period 6 months (from August 2023 to January 2024), not including the pre-departure training activities and the debriefing session after the volunteer internship Allowance • Round-trip air ticket from Hong Kong to the service location; • Monthly living allowance during the volunteer internship period; and • Medical / life insurance allowance during the volunteer internship period. Hong Kong Young Ambassador Scheme 2022/23

The Hong Kong Young Ambassador Scheme (the Scheme) is co-organised by the Tourism Commission of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups.  Since its inception in 2001, the Scheme has attracted more than 4,700 young people to actively engage in promoting hospitality and diversified tourism features to locals and visitors all ovcer the world, aiming to aid the sustainable development of Hong Kong's tourism industry. Looking ahead, the Scheme will continue this legacy in nurturing a group of young leaders, who are passionate about serving the community, to be hospitable ambassadors representing Hong Kong through special voluntary services. We believe that as a result, they will: - cultivate a sense of courtesy and helpfulness to visitors in a friendly manner  - develop a culture of hospitality and service excellence - form a deeper sense of belonging and understanding of the diverse culture of Hong Kong

Participate in Christmas Volunteering Services This year, Happy Baton, one of the SEs, has organised a Christmas Gift Donation to collect and share toys and child care equipment with the needy. The gifts and toys collected will be donated to children from refugee families and those who are still seeking a shelter. 2021 Carol Singing Festival, organised by Child Development Matching Fund and supported by Agency for Volunteer Service, has begun. The activity raises funds for the youth from the grassroots in Hong Kong in order to support their development. Volunteer Service

Service Corps Many of us were moved by the selfless act of Hong Kong volunteer Mr WONG Fuk-wing for his unreserved commitment to helping the orphans in Yushu, Qinghai. Many Hong Kong young people have joined Service Corps [Chinese version only] and been passionate about voluntary work and rendered volunteer service in both Hong Kong and the Mainland. 4C Youth Volunteer Leadership Project With focus on 4C development (Confidence, Care, Commitment and Courage), the project fosters holistic development, nurtures healthy personality and good civic awareness of the youth through volunteer training and volunteer service. It supports the youth leaders to set up volunteer teams in schools; mobilise and organising their fellow students to volunteer, to learn and care more about their own community. Green Volunteer Scheme If you are interested in being part of the Green Hong Kong campaign, you are most welcome to join the Green Volunteer Scheme. Under this programme, you can take part in simple horticultural maintenance of street trees, provide outreach services to schools and elderly centres, and serve as stewards in greening promotion activities. Youth Volunteer Network The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups has also established a Youth Volunteer Network [Chinese version only] to provide young people with basic training and voluntary service opportunities. Active participating volunteers will be given awards and certificates. Volunteer trainings Moreover, the Agency for Volunteer Service also offers referral services for those who wish to volunteer. To help you become a professional volunteer, the Agency has established a Volunteer Training and Development Centre to provide diversified training for volunteers. What’s more, you may have a chance to be a representative at international and regional conferences to exchange and network with volunteer organisations abroad.
