What you need to know when applying for Lifeguard of LCSD

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) recruits lifeguards on civil service terms as well as on non-civil service contract terms according to seasonal and operational needs for providing life-saving services at its public swimming pools, gazetted beaches and water sports centres. Schedule of RecruitmentThe recruitment exercise of Seasonal Lifeguard will be conducted from around December to August every year. Applicants may also submit their job applications before the recruitment advertisement for the next swimming season. Such applications will be processed when the recruitment exercise for that swimming season starts. For more details, please visit the “Jobs Available” column on the LCSD website. RemunerationSeasonal Lifeguard is remunerated at more than $20,000 per month depending on the venues of work. Upon satisfactory completion of the contract and subject to satisfactory performance and conduct during the contract period, the incumbent is entitled to an end-of-contract gratuity. First aid and lifesaving certificates needed when applying for lifeguard

Apart from public swimming pools, gazetted beaches and water sports centres administered by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), quite many places like clubhouses in private properties, hotels and clubs also hire lifeguards at their swimming pools and water sports centres. Therefore the demands for lifeguards are always there. First Aid and LifesavingNormally, a Lifeguard Award and a First Aid Certificate are required when applying for a job as a lifeguard. Lifeguard Leung Wing Yin said, “Many people think that lifeguards simply enjoy the sun when on duty.  This is definitely not the case!  We are responsible for rescuing the swimmers in distress and providing first aid in cases of drowning.  Besides, we have to keep the venues clean and in good order.” Lifeguard Ho Wing Yin said, “We also conduct regular training and sometimes mobilisation drill exercises for rescue operations for a variety of situations in order to best equip ourselves for emergencies.” Please watch the video for more information about the job duties of lifeguards. Duties of a Lifeguard – Beyond Life Saving

Whether at a beach or a pool, you can always see lifeguards standing guard on the watch out platforms. You may question: is swimming the only requirement for recruiting lifeguards?
