General yard waste can be reused or recycled after proper treatment. For instance, tree trunks can be used to make wooden furniture or decoration pieces, shredded tree branches can be used as mulch for planting while grass clippings, after decomposition, become natural fertilizer.
To encourage the recovery and recycling of yard waste in the community and reduce yard waste disposal at landfills, the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) has organised the Peach Blossom Trees (PBTs) Recycling Programme since 2017. The PBTs collected from the programme will be processed and turned into recyclable products, such as bulking agents for composting and mulch for gardening. The 2026 Programme will be held after the Lunar New Year holiday this year, and the arrangements are as follows:
Collection Period:
27 February to 8 March 2026 (total 10 days)
Collection Points:
1) A central collection point at Y·PARK (see location) [for General Public and Commercial and Industrial (C&I) Organisations], or
2) 55 district collection points (including 12 GREEN@COMMUNITY Recycling Stations, 6 Outlying Islands Transfer Facilities and 37 public refuse collection points) [for General Public].
Please refer to the EPD's website for the locations and opening hours of the collection points.
Points to note:
1) The programme is limited to PBTs only. EPD encourages members of the public to replant other small potted plants such as tangerine trees and keep festival decorations for reuse to help reduce waste and conserve resources.
2) Only household PBTs 2m or shorter will be accepted by DCPs, and DCPs will neither receive PBTs longer than 2 metres nor from C&I organisations.
3) Prior to delivery of PBTs, please remove all decorations, fai-chun and tapes etc. to facilitate subsequent recycling processes.
4) Participants who deliver PBTs to Y·PARK or any GREEN@COMMUNITY Recycling Station for recycling will receive an e-certificate upon the submission and verification of their enrolment form. Those who deliver PBTs to the GREEN@COMMUNITY Recycling Stations will also receive a gift while stocks last.
5) If members of the public and C&I organisations still need to recycle PBTs from 9 to 14 March 2026, please deliver the PBTs to Y·PARK within the operation hour (9:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday, except public holidays).
