Fong Yuen Study Hall

Fong Yuen Study Hall is located in Tin Liu Tsuen, Ma Wan and was built by the Chan clan who settled there. It was said that Fong Yuen Study Hall was the former Chan Study Hall which was a Confucian College for providing traditional education in the village. The Chans truly believed that education was of prime importance to the children in the village, so they collected money to build a school named “Fong Yuen Study Hall” (also known as the Senior Fong Yuen) by selling the beach sand from Tung Wan Beach, Ma Wan in the 1920s and 1930s. In honour and glory, Fong Yuen Study Hall was closed at the beginning of this century, like any other village schools in Hong Kong, amidst the changes brought by the local educational reform, marking a splendid history of village school development with increased number of classes.
